Definīcija:The European Commission is an institution with powers of initiative, execution, management and control. It is the guardian of the Treaties and the embodiment of the Community interest. It is composed of 20 independent members (two each for Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom, and one each for the other countries). It is appointed for five years, by the common accord of the Member States, and is subject to a vote of approval by the European Parliament, to which it is answerable. The college of commissioners is assisted by a secretariat, of which the administration is shared between Brussels and Luxembourg. The President of the Commission takes part as a full member in the meetings of the European Council. During the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) it will work, together with the representatives of the foreign ministers, in the group responsible for preparing the meetings at ministerial level.
