Definīcija:The question of animal welfare was first taken into consideration in a declaration attached to the EEC Treaty on the occasion of the previous Intergovernmental Conference (IGC). Since then, there has been an obligation to give consideration to animal welfare whenever Community legislation is drafted and implemented within the frameworks of the common policies on agriculture, transport, the internal market and research. The European Parliament and some Member States want the principle of animal welfare written into the Treaty so that respect for it is mandatory.
